Preparing the Next Generation of Library Leaders
When: November 12, 2008, 9:00 AM to 3:30 PM
NELINET, in cooperation with NYLINK and the Simmons Graduate School of Library and Information Science, invites you to join library directors from around New England, our special speakers, and a group of graduate students from Simmons Graduate School of Library and Information Science to explore the fascinating issues around generational differences in the workforce and the future of libraries.
Nylink is pleased to offer this event with Nelinet. Nylink members are eligible for Nelinet's unlimited member pricing. Note: this event is for directors only.
Program:
Richard Sweeney, University Librarian, New Jersey Institute of Technology, will speak on leadership and generational differences in the workforce and conduct a panel discussion with library school students from the Simmons Graduate School of Information and Library Science. You'll learn what motivates Gen Xers and Milenials and how to improve productivity and identify leaders among your multigenerational workforce.
Paul Glover, Educator and Performance Improvement Consultant, The Glover Group, will conduct the "Identifying and Supporting Emerging Leaders Workshop." This workshop will explore the succession threat faced by libraries throughout the United States and set out in detail the steps progressive libraries must take to establish a succession management process to ensure they are able to meet the challenges of succession in the WorkQuake© of the knowledge economy.
Erin Logsdon, NELINET, Inc. will present a wrap-up session, "From Generation Xers to Millennials." We will examine the challenges and benefits of leading the multi-generational workforce—who they are, what they want out of a job, what motivates them, and why we don't always understand each other.
You'll return to your library with ideas that will help you better lead and motivate your staff and improve productivity and morale, crucial during the economic challenges all libraries are facing.
