What are News Feeds and RSS?
Here at Nylink we refer to the syndication of our publications and news items as news feeds, but the technology we use is RSS. RSS (sometimes referred to as Really Simple Syndication) allows for syndication of web site content. It is particularly suited for news oriented pages and is popular with bloggers.
If a web site visitor has an RSS-aware program (locate one through the news aggregators' links below) it will aggregate RSS feeds from as many sites (which support RSS feeds) as the user wants. Once an individual signs up for an RSS feed their RSS-aware program will check that site's feed for the latest information
Find a news aggregator at:
- The RSS at Harvard law site (also home of the RSS 2.0 specification): http://blogs.law.harvard.edu/tech/directory/5/aggregators
- RSS Info: http://blogspace.com/rss/readers/
or
If you use the FireFox browser (http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/), you can use a feature called "Add live bookmark" for a page's RSS feed. (More information on this can be found at http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/live-bookmarks.html.
