New Databases Available on FirstSearch

This summer, OCLC is migrating ten of RLG’s databases to FirstSearch. Libraries can add the databases to their current FirstSearch subscription on a subscription basis only, per-search will not be available. For new orders placed prior to June 25th libraries may purchase a 12-month subscription and pay for only 6 months. Anthropological Index
Source: Royal Anthropological Institute
Scope: 1957-present, 900 journals (updated semi-monthly)
Focus: Physical Anthropology, Archaeology, Cultural Ethnography, and Linguistics
Anthropological Literature
Source: Harvard University, Tozzer Library
Scope: Late 19th c. - Present, 900 journals (updated quarterly)
Focus: International resource for the fields of Anthropology, Archaeology, and related interdisciplinary research
Anthropology Plus: (combination of Anthropological Index and Anthropological Literature)
Source: Royal Anthropological Institute and Harvard University, Tozzer Libarary
Scope: Late 1880’s to today (updated monthly)
Focus: Anthropological, Archaeological, and Ethnographic research
Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals
Source: Getty and Columbia University
Scope: 1741-Present, indexes more than 2,500 US and foreign journals, 75 percent of these are not indexes in any other source (updated weekly)
Focus: Bibliographical research tool for research in architecture, urban design, historic preservation, and urban planning history
Bibliography of the History of Art
Source: Getty and INIST (Institute for Science and Technical Information)
Scope: 1973-Present, 4,300 periodicals indexed (updated quarterly)
Focus: Comprehensive art bibliography covering European and American visual arts from late antiquity to the present. This database indexes and abstracts journal articles, art-related books, conference proceedings and dissertations, exhibition and dealers’ catalogs. Chicano Database
Source: University of California Berkley
Scope: Extensive coverage from 1960’s-present and selective coverage from 1900’s, over 59,022 records (updated quarterly)
Focus: Indexes journal articles, newspapers, books and book chapters on the Mexican-American and broader Latino experience of Puerto Ricans, Cuban Americans, and Central American immigrants
FRANCIS (international humanities and social sciences)
Source: INIST (Institute for Science and Technical Information)
Scope: 1984-present, 4,300 journals and provides abstracts for 80 percent of its 2+ million records (updated montly)
Focus: Multilingual, multidisciplinary information published in over 4,200 journals covering the humanities, social sciences, and economics. History of Science, Technology, and Medicine
Source: International Union of the History and Philosophy of Science
Scope: 1975-Present, citations from 9,500 journals in addition to books, book reviews, articles, and essays from books, conference proceedings, and dissertations (updated quarterly)
Focus: Integrates four bibliographies to create an international database for the history of science, technology, and medicine, reflecting their influence on society and culture from prehistory to the present.
Index to 19th-Century American Art Periodicals
Source: Mary M. Schmidt, Head Art Librarian Emeritus at Princeton University
Scope: 19th century
Scope: 1840-1907, all 42 art journals published during that period from the United States (not updated, complete)
Focus: The only online index to all 42 art journals published in the United States in the 19th century. Provides information on artists, illustrators, painting, sculpture drawing, photography, architecture and design, exhibitors and sales, decoration, and collecting.
Russian Academy of Sciences Bibliographies (social sciences)
Source: INION, Institute of Scientific Information on Social Sciences, and Russian Academy of Sciences
Scope: 1980-present, 12,500 periodicals published in the former Soviet Union, Russia, and Eastern European countries (updated semi-annually)
Focus: Slavic studies and social sciences
