FirstSearch - OpenWorldCat/WorldCat.org
The FirstSearch news this month is mainly about OpenWorldCat/WorldCat.org. OpenWorldCat is the OCLC initiative of placing libraries’ collection holdings on Google and Yahoo! to remind Web users that libraries are definitely here to stay. WorldCat.org is the destination web site for searching and accessing OpenWorldCat libraries’ collection items. OpenWorldCat libraries meet two requirements: they catalog on OCLC WorldCat, the online union catalog that librarians have been building cooperatively for over 35 years and they have purchased an annual subscription to the WorldCat database on FirstSearch, the OCLC end-user service.
