NetLibrary Now Compatible With EZproxy

NetLibrary, a division of OCLC, is a provider of online eBooks and eAudiobooks for libraries of all types. As of October, NetLibrary participants can now choose to have their users authenticate by EZproxy in addition to IP address recognition or the NetLibrary Patron Authentication.

If your library currently subscribes to NetLibrary and has an EZproxy server, in order to set up your NetLibrary collection for EZproxy, you need to follow a few basic steps:

  • Upgrade to EZproxy 4.0 at no charge http://www.usefulutilities.com/download/.
  • Log on to the Library Resource Center (LRC) at http://extranet.netlibrary.com/resourcecenter/ and open the Administration Tab.
  • Under Authentication, click on Configure Remote Authentication.
  • Download and save your configuration file to the EZproxy server and copy your NetLibrary login URL.
  • Enter your EZproxy Login URL, an effective date and a test set of patron credentials. Then save your settings.
  • Modify the MARC 856 fields in your local catalog for all NetLibrary titles (This is required to support remote users).
  • Once the effective date has passed, test your settings.

If you subscribe to NetLibrary eBooks or eAudiobooks and do not currently have EZproxy, you will need to purchase EZproxy from Useful Utilities http://www.usefulutilities.com/purchase/ at a cost of $495.

If you do not subscribe to NetLibrary and are interested, please contact Jen Hawkes at Nylink via email or call 800-342-3353/518-443-5444 with questions.
