Admin Module Tip of the Month: Re-Direct the “Comments” Link

Until recently, messages sent from the “Comments” link at the top-right of the FirstSearch interface went directly to OCLC Customer Support. Patrons, however, may have assumed that such messages were sent to their library.

Now, you can re-direct the “Comments” link so that comments submitted by your patrons can be sent directly to an email address at your library. Here’s how:

screenshot of FirstSearch
  • Log on to the WorldCat Services Administrative Module (formerly known as the FirstSearch Administrative Module) at http://firstsearch.oclc.org/admin.
  • Click the Authentication/ Access tab.
  • Click General on the navigation menu.
  • Scroll to the Comments section at the bottom of the page. Enter the e-mail address of the person at your library who has agreed to receive such messages.
  • FirstSearch Screenshot comments circled
  • Click the Save Changes button.
  • Exit the Admin Module.

According to OCLC, only comments that are self-identified as “I am a library patron” will be sent to the email address at your library.
