WorldCat Resource Sharing Enhancements
On Sunday, July 8, two enhancements were installed in WorldCat Resource Sharing:
GAC, GAC/UL and UL affiliations displayed in lender requests (top screen shot)
Lenders in WorldCat Resource Sharing now see a list of all the GACs, GAC/ULs and ULs to which both they and the requesting library belong to. This enhancement allows lenders to more easily recognize partners with whom they have lending agreements and more accurately make policy decisions, apply constant data and lending charges.
.PDF Shipping label capability in batch processing (bottom screen shot)
From the batch processing screen users are able to export shipping labels to a .PDF document. WorldCat Resource Sharing supports the following label formats: 5160, 5162 and 5164. Once a lender has updated their ‘pending’ or ‘in process’ requests via batch processing, or a borrower has updated requests to ‘returned’ they’ll see a button that lets them print shipping labels.
When the user clicks the create labels button, a screen pops up prompting them to select a label size. Depending on the size selected, users will be presented with various options.
In addition to the label sizes, users must select the different labels they wish to have printed.
- If a lender has responded YES to requests, they will print shipping labels. Lenders may also choose to also print return labels.
- If a borrower is returning an item, they will have the option to print return shipping labels
If a certain item will not fit on the chosen shipping label size, users will see the option, but not be allowed to select it. These include the following options:
- “Mailed under Section 135.14 Postal Manual LIBRARY MATERIALS” notice
- Request ID barcode
- “POSTMASTER: This parcel may be opened for postal inspection if necessary” notice
- “RETURN POSTAGE GUARANTEED” notice
Users may also reuse a page of labels. They may indicate how many labels are missing from the top of the page (counting left to right, top to bottom). OCLC is not responsible for labels that fail to print correctly or that jam in printers. Both printer makers and label stock companies do not recommend reusing labels.
The label settings are stored in cookies, and will remain persistent until the user changes the label format or the selected options.
- Here is a sample of label format 5160.

- Here is a sample of label format 5162.

- Here is a sample of label format 5164.

Once the user navigates away from the Batch Processing Confirmation page top screen shot on page 13), they will no longer be able to export the data in order to print shipping labels.
