Institution Records Available on the FirstSearch Platform
As part of the migration of Research Library Group (RLG), OCLC has added Institution Records to OCLC FirstSearch and WorldCat Resource Sharing services. This feature only appears in WorldCat, group catalogs, eBooks, and WorldCat Dissertations. It is an optional feature that the library’s authorization administrator can make available to an authorization number in the FirstSearch Admin.
Institution Records provide additional copies of theWorldCat record, as they were cataloged by individual institutions, retaining each library’s local data and notes. This information can be valuable to researchers, and especially in reference to rare items. These local records can be presented as an additional source of information to display. Another option is to both display and also search the data in these records. The default option is to not display or search these records. Therefore, if you are interested in including this information to your service, please check out the additional information at: http://www.oclc.org/support/documentation/firstsearch/using/UsingInstitutionRecords/FS_Institution_Records_quick_ref.pdf and consider including this feature through the FirstSearch Admin.
